Turning My Hobby into a Money

by: Shiela Jean G. Yanquin

In a world that full of surprises, unexpected and downfall occurrence like what we had experience right now, suffering and facing the crisis due to the emergence of the said Covid-19 virus . This pandemic has affected thousands of people, who are either sick or are being killed due to the spread of this disease. Many lost their job and way of living.

The year 2020 was been a rough and hard times to us. During pandemic, I witness and saw of how people suffered due to lost of work and way of living and it really hurts seeing them suffering. I, myself witness of how my family also affected during crisis and it is really hard on your part that you want to help but you are nothing. This pandemic made me realize to learn new skills or develop some skills instead of sleeping and doing nothing the whole time. I decided to develop the skills of being a manicurist, besides that I love doing this I know that we can earn money through with it. It can be a source of income or can be a "sideline". I make it a hobby of cleaning nails the whole time after doing my household chores. In order to improve my works, I keep on practicing. At first, since we are not allowed to go out, and socializing other people I take the chance to practice and develop the skills being a manicurist with the help of browsing in YouTube and watching tutorials on how to do the proper way of cleaning the nails. So when we were in a GCQ, I started to ask my cousin, uncle and auntie or a close a friend of mine that I will be the one to clean their nails or to do some manicure and pedicure to them. As of today I have already my "suki" and I'm glad through with it I can buy some goods or some washing detergent.

I believe that "Everything Happens for a Reason", though God gave us this tough challenge but I know that God only measures of how strong our faith to Him. He only wants us to be awaken from being asleep and redirect our path towards Him, perhaps most of us have forgotten God of making earthly things. Even though this pandemic brought hard times to us from way of living, and to learning as well but still this it is not a bad experience for me at all because I learned many lessons from it. Perhaps it's a God's way for us to know ourselves deeper, to have time to our family and appreciate small things even in a small way.
